Patrick and Ann with Aunt Elsie Quarterman

'Ann and Patrick Quarterman' 2014

August 2014 was a busy time for me as I was starting my senior year of high school. It was also the month that I came to know Ann and Patrick Quarterman. I asked a contact I had if she could ask the Quarterman's permission for me to name the daylily I had selected (now registered and on the previous page) for Dr. Elsie Quarterman.. Mrs. Ann is her niece by marriage and Patrick is her nephew. Their "Aunt" Elsie as she is also known in their household, was a special lady and they gave me the permission I needed and so now we have Elsie's registered cultivar. It wasn't long after that I asked to name and again recieved permission, one after them both.

These two are some amazing people, let me tell ya! They have supported all the work I have done in daylily breeding, endangered species, the publication of my novel War & Extinction featuring Elsie, and the creation of the Elsie Quarterman Memorial Garden at her  and their home in Nashville.  Each time I visit I always enjoy the time spent with them. We go through Elsie's garden, through photos and albums of her and see the numerous awards she received, sit and talk about the world and how meaningful life is even when we fail to see it. They make us feel right at home and like we are part of the family. It is more than an honor to say I know these two people and I love them to death. There needs to be more people in the world like you both. Thank you for everything, the hospitaility, and carrying on the legacy of our amazing Aunt Elsie-
